Rostock – AIDA Cruises has officially announced its return to the Middle East for the winter 2027/28 season, marking a significant comeback for the German line in the Arabian Gulf after a two-year hiatus. The deployment, confirmed on January 9, 2026, will see the 3,250-passenger AIDAperla operating a series of 7- to 14-night voyages from Dubai and Abu Dhabi, signalling renewed confidence in the region’s cruise tourism sector.

Starting December 16, 2027, AIDAperla will sail itineraries visiting key regional ports including Sir Bani Yas Island (UAE), Khalifa Bin Salman (Bahrain), Muscat (Oman), and Doha (Qatar). This dual-homeport strategy offers flexibility for international guests and taps into the growing fly-cruise market connecting Europe to the Gulf. The season will run through early April 2028, concluding with a repositioning voyage back to Europe via Africa.

The decision follows AIDA’s withdrawal from the region during the 2025/26 season due to security concerns in the Red Sea, which impacted its previous deployment plans for AIDAprima. The return of AIDAperla—a Hyperion-class vessel featuring an all-weather “Beach Club” dome and extensive family amenities—underscores the line’s commitment to offering diverse warm-weather options during the European winter.

“We are thrilled to bring AIDA back to the Arabian Gulf,” said an AIDA spokesperson. “The region offers a unique blend of modern luxury, ancient culture, and guaranteed sunshine that resonates strongly with our guests. AIDAperla is the perfect ship to showcase these destinations.”

The move aligns with broader regional growth, as Gulf ports invest heavily in cruise infrastructure. Dubai and Abu Dhabi continue to solidify their status as premier winter hubs, attracting major operators like MSC Cruises and Celestyal alongside AIDA. The German line’s return is expected to boost local tourism economies, driving visitor numbers to attractions ranging from Abu Dhabi’s Louvre to Muscat’s souks.

Bookings for the 2027/28 season are now open, with AIDA promoting early-bird incentives. The deployment complements the line’s global winter programme, which also features AIDAprima’s debut in the Caribbean and long-haul voyages to South Africa and the Indian Ocean.

For GCC travel advisors, AIDA’s return restores a key German-language product to the local market mix, offering a distinct onboard experience that appeals to European expatriates and international clients seeking a lively, informal cruise atmosphere.
