MIAMI, Florida – 21 May 2026 – Carnival Cruise Line has unveiled a new pool area and refreshed brand identity for its Roatán destination, Isla Tropicale, with the addition of Mangrove Bay marking the first dedicated pool space at the site.
The new area adds 48,000 square feet of recreational space and introduces a mix of family-friendly and relaxation-focused facilities. These include a kids’ splash pad, a swim-up bar, adjacent bar service, cabanas, loungers and poolside daybeds.
The update forms part of the destination’s wider presentation as Isla Tropicale, the name now used for Carnival’s Roatán port previously known as Mahogany Bay. The destination sits within the company’s Paradise Collection of exclusive cruise ports.
Enhanced Guest Experience
The latest changes are centered on expanding the guest experience while retaining the destination’s existing footprint and services. Isla Tropicale continues to offer two berths capable of accommodating Excel- and Vista-class ships, along with 52 shops, local artisan kiosks, three restaurants, four bars, a scenic chairlift and oceanview cabanas.
Carnival said the destination has represented a $93 million investment in Roatán since opening in 2009. The company also stated that close to nine million visitors have passed through the port and that the destination has generated $750 million in economic impact.
Awards And Recognition
Environmental recognition remains part of the destination’s profile. The beach at Isla Tropicale received the Honduras Blue Flag Award and a five-star rating in 2024 and 2025, with the awards tied to environmental management, water quality, safety, accessibility and sustainable tourism.
Leadership Remarks
Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line, said: “Isla Tropicale marks another exciting investment in the largest group of exclusive cruise destinations, Paradise Collection by Carnival,” and added: “New features, including the destination’s first pool area, will elevate the guest experience at Isla Tropicale. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Roatán and Honduras and expanding our positive economic impact in the region.”
Andrés Ehrler, minister of tourism of Honduras, said: “Isla Tropicale reflects the continued importance of cruise tourism to Roatán and to Honduras,” and added: “We value partnerships that support local jobs, create opportunities for businesses and help strengthen Roatán’s position as one of the Caribbean’s most welcoming destinations, and Carnival has done exactly that.”
The release positions the new pool area as the latest addition to a destination that already combines cruise berths, shopping, dining and leisure facilities. It also underlines Roatán’s role within Carnival’s wider network of exclusive destinations.
