AmaWaterways is widely regarded as the innovator of modern luxury river cruising, founded in 2002 by industry pioneers Rudi Schreiner, Kristin Karst, and Jimmy Murphy. The line distinguishes itself through a philosophy of “The Heart of the River,” prioritising warm, personalised service and ship design that enhances the guest experience. It was the first river cruise line to introduce “Twin Balcony” staterooms (featuring both a French and outside balcony) and the first to carry a fleet of complimentary bicycles on board for active exploration.

Today, AmaWaterways operates the most diverse and modern fleet on the world’s waterways. This includes the revolutionary AmaMagna—twice the width of traditional river ships—which redefines space and luxury on the Danube. The line is also a leader in wellness, employing dedicated “Wellness Hosts” on every ship to lead daily classes, and offers an extensive choice of included shore excursions in every port, catering to “Gentle,” “Regular,” and “Active” walking paces
