The line’s unique positioning—”French luxury meets expedition grit”—appeals to discerning guests who want to explore Antarctica or the Northwest Passage without sacrificing butler service, open-bar champagne, or Michelin-starred dining. 

Ponant’s guest profile is overwhelmingly European (50% French, with significant German, UK, and Swiss contingents) but increasingly international. The demographic skews mature (60+), affluent, and well-travelled, with a preference for intellectually stimulating itineraries over party atmospheres. Onboard, the “French Touch” manifests in multi-course tasting menus curated by Ducasse consultants, sommeliers who pair wines with each course, and a spa offering Sothys Paris treatments. Yet the line maintains expedition credibility with robust Zodiac operations, naturalist-led programmes, and citizen science partnerships. ​

Operationally, Ponant is extraordinarily ambitious. Its 2021 launch of Le Commandant Charcot—the world’s only luxury icebreaker capable of reaching the Geographic North Pole—redefined polar cruising.
