Cunard is synonymous with the “Golden Age” of ocean travel, maintaining a unique position in the industry as the operator of the world’s only true ocean liner, Queen Mary 2. Founded in 1840, the line blends deep-rooted British maritime heritage with modern luxury, famous for its “White Star Service,” formal Gala Evenings, and the sheer grandeur of its vessels. Today, Cunard balances this tradition with contemporary evolution, most notably with the 2024 launch of Queen Anne, which introduces updated design concepts while respecting the brand’s Art Deco legacy.

The line is particularly known for its Transatlantic crossings and World Voyages. Unlike typical cruise lines that focus on “island hopping,” Cunard emphasises the journey itself, offering “sea days” rich with enrichment. This includes the renowned “Cunard Insights” programme featuring guest speakers from astronauts to authors, and arguably the finest ballroom dancing at sea in the Queens Room. The fleet offers a tiered “ship-within-a-ship” experience, where the category of stateroom determines the assigned dining room—Britannia, Princess Grill, or Queens Grill.

Operations are worldwide but anchored by the iconic Southampton to New York route. Cunard also has a strong presence in Australia, Japan, and the Mediterranean. The atmosphere is dignified and ceremonious, appealing to travellers who appreciate dress codes, afternoon tea served by white-gloved waiters, and a sense of occasion that recalls the era of the great liners.
