The Most Extensive Fleet Transformation in Company History
Azamara Cruises has announced its most ambitious and comprehensive renovation program to date, dubbed “Azamara Forward,” representing the largest capital investment in the luxury small-ship cruise line’s history. The multi-year initiative will bring sweeping upgrades across the company’s four-vessel fleet, with exclusive new suites debuting aboard Azamara Quest in December 2026.
The transformation program represents a defining evolution for Azamara, a brand that has built its reputation on destination immersion experiences featuring extended port stays and overnight calls in culturally rich destinations. Company leadership has characterized Azamara Forward as a thoughtful elevation of the onboard product while maintaining the core principles that have distinguished the line from larger resort ships.
“Azamara Forward is Azamara Cruises’ vision for thoughtfully elevating the onboard experience while honoring the hallmarks that have long defined the brand,” stated Dondra Ritzenthaler, Chief Executive Officer of Azamara Cruises, in the company’s announcement. The program will launch with Azamara Quest’s December 18, 2026 sailing and subsequently roll out across sister ships Azamara Journey, Azamara Pursuit, and Azamara Onward.
Among the most significant enhancements is the creation of an entirely new Penthouse Deck exclusively on Azamara Quest’s highest level. This addition introduces 12 all-new premier suites unique to the vessel, including the innovative Grandview and Panorama Suites. These accommodations are designed to provide guests with expansive ocean vistas and premium amenities that elevate the small-ship luxury experience to new heights.
The culinary component of Azamara Forward centers on the introduction of a newly dedicated Chef’s Table restaurant across the fleet. This intimate dining venue will offer guests an exclusive culinary journey featuring multi-course tasting menus paired with premium wines. The experience represents a significant departure from Azamara’s traditional complimentary dining approach, though company officials indicate pricing will remain competitive within the luxury cruise segment.
Additional dining enhancements include a comprehensive reimagination of Discoveries Restaurant, the primary dining venue aboard each vessel. The renovated space will feature updated décor, refined menu offerings, and improved service flow designed to reduce wait times during peak dining hours. The company has also announced the debut of a recrafted Atlas Bar across all four ships, transforming this popular gathering space into a sophisticated cocktail lounge with an expanded beverage program and live entertainment.
The Cabaret Lounge, Azamara’s evening entertainment venue, will undergo a full transformation as part of the Forward initiative. The redesign aims to create a more intimate atmosphere conducive to the line’s programming, which emphasizes cultural performances, enrichment lectures, and destination-focused content rather than Vegas-style production shows common on larger ships.

Every stateroom and suite across the fleet will receive thoughtfully curated updates, including refreshed soft goods, enhanced bathroom fixtures, improved lighting systems, and upgraded in-room technology. These modifications are designed to modernize the guest experience while maintaining the comfortable, residential atmosphere that Azamara passengers have come to expect.
Industry analysts view the Azamara Forward program as a strategic necessity for the brand, which faces intensifying competition in the small-ship luxury segment. Viking has aggressively expanded its ocean cruise presence, while expedition operators like Silversea and Seabourn have introduced luxury vessels that blur the line between expedition and premium ocean cruising. Oceania Cruises, owned by Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings alongside Regent Seven Seas, continues to compete directly with Azamara for the same demographic of affluent, culturally curious travelers.
The timing of the announcement is particularly significant given Azamara’s ownership structure. The brand was acquired by private equity firm Sycamore Partners in 2021 from Royal Caribbean Group for approximately $201 million. Since the acquisition, Azamara has added the former Pacific Princess to its fleet, rechristened as Azamara Onward, bringing the company to four ships. The Forward initiative represents Sycamore’s most substantial capital commitment to the brand since acquisition, signaling confidence in Azamara’s growth trajectory and market positioning.
The phased rollout of Azamara Forward will enable the company to refine the enhancements based on guest feedback from early implementations. Following Azamara Quest’s debut in December 2026, the remaining three vessels will undergo their transformations over the subsequent 18-24 months during scheduled dry dock periods. The company has indicated it will maintain normal sailing schedules throughout the implementation period, minimizing disruption to booked voyages.
