Koror – Four Seasons Explorer, the luxury brand’s 39-metre cruising catamaran, continues to serve as a mobile operations lab and floating resort in Palau, paving the way for a permanent land-based resort. As of December 2025, the vessel is executing a unique “rolling cruise” model with no fixed departure dates, allowing guests to embark and disembark daily for flexible stays.
This operational strategy, confirmed by Four Seasons executives in late 2025, allows the brand to test the destination’s capacity and refine its service standards before opening a permanent luxury resort in Palau, projected for 2027 or 2028. “We are using the Explorer to test bed everything, making sure the destination is operationally ready,” said Johann Khairi, Assistant Director of PR. The vessel, which previously operated in the Maldives, features 11 spacious cabins and serves as a dedicated dive liveaboard and cultural explorer.
Since its Palau debut in late 2023, Four Seasons Explorer has been the only international luxury hospitality presence in the archipelago. It offers bespoke itineraries focused on diving UNESCO-listed sites, cultural excursions, and marine conservation. The daily embarkation model offers unprecedented flexibility for luxury travellers, removing the constraints of traditional fixed-schedule cruises.
The initiative aligns with Palau’s “high-value, low-impact” tourism strategy, modeled after Bhutan. Four Seasons is working closely with the Palauan government to ensure sustainable growth. The floating resort concept appeals to eco-conscious luxury travellers seeking exclusive access to one of the world’s last pristine frontiers.
