14 October 2026: Disney Cruise Line has revealed Disney Imagination as the name of the first Disney cruise ship that will sail from Japan, with departures from Tokyo beginning in spring 2029.
The vessel will be the first ship in Disney Cruise Line Japan, a Disney-branded cruise business operated by Oriental Land Co., Ltd. (OLC), which owns and operates Tokyo Disney Resort under licence from Disney.
The new operation builds on the longstanding relationship between Disney and OLC, bringing Disney cruise holidays to families in Japan.
Ariel and Sebastian to Feature on Ship’s Stern
Disney Imagination will continue Disney Cruise Line’s tradition of featuring Disney characters on the stern of its ships.
Ariel from Walt Disney Animation Studios’ The Little Mermaid will appear on the ship’s stern alongside Sebastian and friends from beneath the sea. Using her dinglehopper, Ariel will create the ship’s name in a design reflecting her curiosity and adventurous spirit.
Entertainment and Family Experiences Planned
Disney Imagination will offer a range of onboard experiences incorporating Disney storytelling, entertainment and hospitality.
Planned offerings include Broadway-style entertainment exclusive to Disney Cruise Line, opportunities to meet Disney characters, and food and beverage experiences. The ship will also feature dedicated spaces for children, tweens and teenagers, alongside exclusive adult-only areas for relaxation.
Disney storytelling will be incorporated throughout the vessel, supported by the service and hospitality associated with Disney Cruise Line.
Tokyo Sailings to Begin in Spring 2029
Disney Imagination is scheduled to begin sailing from Tokyo in spring 2029 as the first vessel in the Disney Cruise Line Japan operation. The ship is described as powered by creativity and optimism, with Disney storytelling at its heart.
Further details about Disney Imagination are expected to be shared ahead of its 2029 debut.
