27 July 2026: Viking® 2028–2029 ocean deployment will comprise 80 voyages visiting 301 ports across 84 countries and six continents, according to newly listed itineraries and fleet information on Viking’s official website. The programme is scheduled to operate between May 2028 and September 2029.
The deployment covers Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, North America, Alaska, South America, Australia and the Caribbean. It includes two new itineraries, additional departures in Japan and the introduction of two more ocean ships.
New Alaska Itinerary
The new 15-day Alaskan Fjords & the Inside Passage itinerary will operate between Vancouver, British Columbia, and Whittier, Alaska, with voyages available in both directions.
The programme includes ten guided tours across Canada and the United States. Its scheduled destinations include Ketchikan, Klawock, Wrangell, Juneau, Haines, Icy Strait Point, Valdez, Homer, Kodiak and Seward.
Scenic cruising is planned through the Inside Passage, Tracy Arm and Yakutat Bay. Viking identifies Klawock and Yakutat Bay as additions to its Alaska programme.
Viking Orion and Viking Venus are scheduled to operate the itinerary during 2028 and 2029. The cruise line’s published schedule notes that the order of ports may vary by departure.
Mediterranean, Malta and North Africa
Viking is also introducing the 16-day Mediterranean, Malta & North Africa itinerary, operating roundtrip from Rome through seven countries.
The voyage includes nine guided tours and an overnight visit to Valletta in Malta. The scheduled route combines Mediterranean and North African destinations, with calls including Tunis, Algiers, Casablanca, Cádiz, Málaga, Barcelona, Marseille and Ajaccio.
The programme begins and concludes in Civitavecchia, the port serving Rome. Departures are listed for 2028 and 2029 on Viking’s official itinerary page.
Additional Japan Departures
The 2028–2029 deployment will also include additional sailings of Japan Discovery, a 15-day roundtrip itinerary from Tokyo.
Operated by Viking Neptune, the voyage is scheduled to visit nine destinations in Japan. The itinerary combines calls in cities including Osaka, Hiroshima and Nagasaki with destinations such as Shimizu, Kochi, Kagoshima and Beppu.
The additional departures are scheduled for the summer seasons of 2028 and 2029.
Two More Ocean Ships
Viking Leda and Viking Vega will join Viking’s ocean fleet during the deployment period. Both ships are listed by Viking as small, all-veranda vessels accommodating 998 guests.
Secondary deployment information indicates that Viking Leda is scheduled to begin operating in December 2028, followed by Viking Vega in June 2029. Viking Leda is expected to open with a Mediterranean programme, while Viking Vega will initially sail in Southern Europe before repositioning to the British Isles.
The wider season will also feature Viking Libra, Viking Astrea and Viking Lyra, which are scheduled to enter service between 2026 and 2028.
