Royal Caribbean Hero of the Seas Icon Class

MIAMI, Florida – 30 March 2026Royal Caribbean has unveiled Hero of the Seas, describing the vessel as the next step in its Icon Class family holiday offer and confirming that the ship will arrive in Miami in August 2027. The cruise line said the ship will bring together more water-based attractions, dining choices and family accommodation options across eight neighbourhoods.

Family vacation focus

Royal Caribbean said Hero of the Seas has been designed around shared experiences for families travelling together. The ship will feature the most pools at sea, according to the line, alongside a record 28 dining venues and cooking classes for all ages.

The line also said the ship will include new family raft slides and accommodation options aimed at multigenerational groups, including the three-storey Ultimate Family Treehouse. Royal Caribbean described the ship as the fourth Icon Class vessel.

Onboard experiences

The new ship will add to the waterpark offer already associated with the Icon Class. Royal Caribbean said Category 6 on Hero of the Seas will include two new family raft slides, among them the first funnel raft slide at sea.

Other family-focused features mentioned in the announcement include expanded Splashaway Bay for younger children, the Surfside neighbourhood, and recreational options such as Adrenaline Peak, Lost Dunes mini-golf and sports courts. The ship will also include refreshed spaces such as the Swim & Tonic pool and swim-up bar for adults.

Dining and accommodation

Royal Caribbean said Hero of the Seas will offer 28 dining venues, with the mix aimed at bringing together familiar family favourites and global flavours. The line also highlighted cooking classes for guests of different ages as part of the ship’s broader family activity line-up.

Accommodation will be a major part of the ship’s pitch, with Royal Caribbean pointing to new options for larger groups and multigenerational travel. The Ultimate Family Treehouse was singled out as a three-storey space designed for bigger family parties.

Booking and rollout

Royal Caribbean said vacations on Hero of the Seas will soon open on its website. Crown & Anchor Society loyalty members will be able to book from Wednesday, 1 April, before the official opening on Thursday, 2 April.

The launch extends the cruise line’s wider effort to evolve its family product within the Icon Class framework. For the trade, the announcement underlines how major cruise brands continue to invest in large-scale ships built around multi-generational demand, a segment that remains important across source markets including the Middle East.

Industry significance

The Hero of the Seas announcement adds to Royal Caribbean’s push to position Icon Class as a benchmark for family cruising. By combining water attractions, dining capacity and larger accommodation formats, the company is reinforcing a model that targets families seeking resort-style holidays at sea.

The Miami deployment also keeps Royal Caribbean’s flagship family product anchored in a key homeport with global relevance. The line said the ship will form part of its wider effort to give families more choices when travelling together.
