Star Clippers offers one of the most distinctive experiences at sea, reviving the golden age of sail for the modern luxury traveller. Unlike cruise ships with cosmetic sails, Star Clippers vessels are true wind-powered tall ships. The engines are silenced whenever possible (typically 70–80% of the time in the Caribbean), allowing guests to travel under the power of thousands of square feet of Dacron sail.
The brand occupies a unique niche between a private yacht and a boutique cruise. The atmosphere is casual yet sophisticated—reminiscent of the private yachts of the Riviera. There are no casinos, Broadway shows, or rigid schedules. Instead, the “entertainment” is climbing the mast (with safety harness) to the crow’s nest, lying in the bowsprit net suspended above the ocean, or watching the crew manipulate the rigging.
Founded by Swedish entrepreneur Mikael Krafft, the line attracts a mix of European and North American guests who value authenticity. The ships are small enough to drop anchor in tiny harbours like Deshaies (Guadeloupe) or Amalfi, yet large enough to offer comfortable cabins, swimming pools, and open-seating dining.
