Polar Latitudes Expeditions is a boutique operator distinguished by its singular focus on the Antarctic region and its pioneering “Citizen Science” programme. Founded in 2010 by John McKeon and Tachen Ting, the company was built on the philosophy of creating a “company we would want to travel with,” eschewing the industry trend toward larger vessels in favour of intimate, small-ship expeditions.
The brand is defined by its commitment to deep immersion. Unlike operators that view the ship as the destination, Polar Latitudes emphasises the destination itself, maximising time off the ship via Zodiac cruising and shore landings. They were the first Antarctic operator to officially collaborate with the Polar Citizen Science Collective, establishing a dedicated laboratory onboard and employing a specialist Citizen Science Coordinator on every voyage. This allows guests to contribute meaningfully to climate and wildlife research during their holiday.
Operations are historically concentrated solely on the Antarctic Peninsula, South Georgia, and the Falkland Islands. However, the strategic integration with Albatros Expeditions in 2026 marks a pivotal expansion, bringing modern, eco-efficient hardware and Arctic itineraries (Svalbard, Greenland) into the Polar Latitudes portfolio while maintaining the intimate service ethos that defines the brand.
