Havila Voyages operates as one of two concession holders on the iconic Norwegian Coastal Express (Bergen-Kirkenes route), a 1,190-nautical-mile UNESCO-protected journey that doubles as a vital supply service for remote communities. Launched in 2021 to replace aging Hurtigruten vessels, Havila emphasises modern environmental technology and contemporary Scandinavian design. The line’s ships are among the greenest in the world, capable of battery-powered zero-emission sailing in protected fjords—a regulatory requirement for the route.
Havila targets a mix of international tourists (70% of capacity) and Norwegian locals, appealing to nature lovers who want comfort without sacrificing authenticity. The onboard experience blends cruise ship amenities with ferry functionality: panoramic lounges for whale-watching, locally sourced cuisine, and flexible cabin options for overnight voyages or day trips. Unlike traditional cruises, Havila’s schedule is fixed year-round, ensuring reliability for planners.
The brand’s scale is deliberately limited to the coastal route, calling at 34 ports over 6–12 days. This focus allows deep integration with local communities, from sourcing ingredients dockside to hosting cultural programmes. Havila represents Norway’s push toward sustainable coastal tourism.
