MIAMI, Florida – 20 April 2026Royal Caribbean’s Legend of the Seas has entered sea trials in Turku, Finland, marking a major construction milestone ahead of its July 2026 debut.

First time at sea

The ship has now sailed in open water for the first time as it moves towards the final stages of construction before welcoming its first guests. According to the cruise line, the sea trials will last 10 days and will involve more than 2,000 engineers and specialists.

During this period, the team will carry out technical tests on the ship’s systems, including checks on how it performs in open water and how its engines respond under pressure. The vessel is expected to cover approximately 2,400 nautical miles before returning to the Meyer Turku shipyard.

Final construction stage

Royal Caribbean said the sea trials are one of the last phases of construction for the third ship in its Icon Class fleet. The line described the ship as having reached a major construction milestone as it takes part in testing ahead of entry into service.

The press release also said the ship will feature eight neighbourhoods and more than 40 ways to dine, drink and be entertained. These details were included in the company’s description of the vessel’s onboard offering.

Europe before Florida

After its inaugural European summer season, Legend of the Seas is scheduled to move to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. From there, the ship will operate 6-night Western Caribbean sailings and 8-night Southern Caribbean sailings.

Royal Caribbean also said these itineraries will include visits to Perfect Day at CocoCay in The Bahamas.

MIAMI, Florida – 31 March 2026 — Royal Caribbean Group has announced a new credit card partnership with Bank of America, introducing the  Royal ONE™ Visa Signature® and Royal ONE Plus™ Visa Signature® credit cards for customers across Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises and Silversea. The company said the products are the cruise industry’s first tri-branded credit cards and form part of its wider loyalty strategy.

Loyalty push

Royal Caribbean Group said the cards are designed to simplify the way travellers earn and redeem rewards across its three cruise brands. The launch is intended to deepen the group’s loyalty offering by linking everyday spending to cruise-related benefits and vacation rewards.

The company said the Royal ONE™ cards continue a multi-year effort to rework its loyalty programme and unlock more value for guests. It added that the new cards will be available in the coming weeks.

Two card options

The Royal ONE™ Visa Signature card carries no annual fee, while the Royal ONE Plus™ Visa Signature card comes with a $99 annual fee. Royal Caribbean Group said both cards are built around points earning across cruise bookings and selected everyday categories, with the Plus™ version offering higher earning rates and broader travel-linked categories.

The company said the Royal ONE™ card includes priority boarding for Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises, a $100 anniversary reward after qualifying spend, Visa Signature travel protections and no foreign transaction fees.

For the Royal ONE Plus™ card, the listed benefits include priority suite boarding for Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises and Silversea voyages, priority luggage handling for Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises, a $200 anniversary reward after qualifying spend, Visa Signature travel protections and no foreign transaction fees.

Strategic context

Royal Caribbean Group said the cards were created with Bank of America and Visa and are intended to support a broader loyalty ecosystem across the company’s brands. The group also said the launch builds on recent loyalty enhancements, including Points Choice and an industry-first Status Match initiative.

The move matters for the cruise sector because it shows how major operators are increasingly using financial partnerships to strengthen customer retention. For cruise and travel trade partners in the Middle East, where premium outbound leisure demand continues to matter, the launch underlines how cruise lines are packaging brand loyalty around flexible rewards rather than only onboard spend.

Brand background

Royal Caribbean Group said its brands cover a wide range of vacation experiences across Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises and Silversea. The company positioned the new cards as part of its effort to connect that portfolio more closely for repeat guests.

The announcement also fits into a wider trend in cruise retail and travel finance, where branded payment products are being used to encourage repeat booking and higher-value customer engagement. Royal Caribbean Group said the cards are intended to make rewards more portable across its brands and more useful for customers who cruise regularly.

MIAMI, Florida – 30 March 2026Royal Caribbean has unveiled Hero of the Seas, describing the vessel as the next step in its Icon Class family holiday offer and confirming that the ship will arrive in Miami in August 2027. The cruise line said the ship will bring together more water-based attractions, dining choices and family accommodation options across eight neighbourhoods.

Family vacation focus

Royal Caribbean said Hero of the Seas has been designed around shared experiences for families travelling together. The ship will feature the most pools at sea, according to the line, alongside a record 28 dining venues and cooking classes for all ages.

The line also said the ship will include new family raft slides and accommodation options aimed at multigenerational groups, including the three-storey Ultimate Family Treehouse. Royal Caribbean described the ship as the fourth Icon Class vessel.

Onboard experiences

The new ship will add to the waterpark offer already associated with the Icon Class. Royal Caribbean said Category 6 on Hero of the Seas will include two new family raft slides, among them the first funnel raft slide at sea.

Other family-focused features mentioned in the announcement include expanded Splashaway Bay for younger children, the Surfside neighbourhood, and recreational options such as Adrenaline Peak, Lost Dunes mini-golf and sports courts. The ship will also include refreshed spaces such as the Swim & Tonic pool and swim-up bar for adults.

Royal Caribbean said Hero of the Seas will offer 28 dining venues, with the mix aimed at bringing together familiar family favourites and global flavours. The line also highlighted cooking classes for guests of different ages as part of the ship’s broader family activity line-up.

Accommodation will be a major part of the ship’s pitch, with Royal Caribbean pointing to new options for larger groups and multigenerational travel. The Ultimate Family Treehouse was singled out as a three-storey space designed for bigger family parties.

Booking and rollout

Royal Caribbean said vacations on Hero of the Seas will soon open on its website. Crown & Anchor Society loyalty members will be able to book from Wednesday, 1 April, before the official opening on Thursday, 2 April.

The launch extends the cruise line’s wider effort to evolve its family product within the Icon Class framework. For the trade, the announcement underlines how major cruise brands continue to invest in large-scale ships built around multi-generational demand, a segment that remains important across source markets including the Middle East.

Industry significance

The Hero of the Seas announcement adds to Royal Caribbean’s push to position Icon Class as a benchmark for family cruising. By combining water attractions, dining capacity and larger accommodation formats, the company is reinforcing a model that targets families seeking resort-style holidays at sea.

The Miami deployment also keeps Royal Caribbean’s flagship family product anchored in a key homeport with global relevance. The line said the ship will form part of its wider effort to give families more choices when travelling together.

Royal Caribbean has unveiled plans to commence its 2026 Alaska cruise season earlier than in previous years, responding to growing demand among Gulf travellers seeking cooler summer getaways. Starting in late April instead of the traditional May, this expanded deployment provides more flexible itinerary options and greater capacity over the prime cruising months. connectingtravel

The line’s signature ships, including the Ovation of the Seas and Anthem of the Seas, will sail varied routes through Alaska’s iconic Inside Passage, Glacier Bay, and southeastern ports such as Juneau and Ketchikan. Royal Caribbean is capitalising on increased interest from families and adventure-seekers from the Middle East drawn to Alaska’s pristine landscapes and unique wildlife viewing opportunities.

The early season launch aligns with a broader trend among cruise lines to extend operating windows in sought-after destinations, providing Gulf-based travellers with additional timing choices that fit holiday calendars and regional climate preferences.

Industry experts highlight that Royal Caribbean’s move is aimed at securing market share in a competitive luxury-celebration and expedition cruise sector, matching the Middle East’s growing demand for diverse, experiential travel. Early booking incentives and custom shore excursions crafted for GCC guests emphasize the commercial intent behind this strategic deployment.
